Hi everyone,
I’m a UK teacher in New Zealand, currently teaching Year 1 and 2. Like everyone else, I’m currently
in lockdown and, in between cleaning almost everything and watching literally everything on Netflix, I
had to spare a thought for parents. We teachers are an unusual breed; phrases like fronted adverbials
and improper fractions trip gayly off the tongue and usually it doesn’t actually matter because at the end
of the day, as long as we and the kids know what we’re talking about, it’s fine! However, things have
changed a little. Chances are, most parents could use a refresher for some terms, which is fine!

So, in between episodes of Love is Blind and the 15th rewatch of Mean Girls, I’ve written up a short
guide for parents who could use a booster. I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes or overload you with
information, but I thought, if you wanted it, it’s here. And please remember that, whatever you’re doing
to help your child get through these interesting times, you’re doing great.

Final note, my training was in the UK, so this will be mostly UK based. The Kiwi system is a bit more
chilled out, but similar enough in places to overlap. Also, as the majority of my experience is with Year
2 so these will skew to the younger generation, but if you’d like to learn more about a subject or topic,
flick me a message and I’ll see what I can do!
